Video planning (Final ideas)

For our final idea we chose a Pop/Punk song called Rumor Mill, the song was sung by an American Pop/Punk band called We Are In The Crowd. In order for us to create a Pop/Punk "feel" to the music video we chose a band named Saturdays Alliance to act as the band and be also part of the narrative in the music video.

Filming/Location
We  will be using various camera angles to obtain a build up throughout the music video. From the results of our target audience research a band performance and a narrative in a music video is one of the common codes and conventions used in Pop/Punk music videos therefore we decided to film in two different locations; our school stage for the band performance and the narrative scene would be set in a house.

Narrative
For the narrative we chose (Hannah) the lead singer of the band to be the protagonist of the story, we decided to do this as the most part of the song was a female vocal. The main idea is to convey of a story of girl who is being pressured and judged as certain stereotypes by people on popular social networking sites e.g. (Facebook). Rumors about the people in the party will be posted on Facebook. We will use American stereotypes as we feel that this would reflect the lyrics of the song more and will show a high school look to our music video. We will ask the actors in the music video to wear costumes that represents the stereotypes they were chosen to do.
List of stereotypes:

  • Main character- Blonde Bimbo
  • Jock
  • Crazy mental patient
  • Emo
  • Nerd
  • Stoner
  • Hippie
  • Gangster
  • Skater
  • Prep
  • Loner

Camera Angles
We will be using an establishing shot to establish the place of the party scene, hand held shots will used to create a persons point of view of the party. To maintain the focus to the main character of the narrative close-up shots will be used and over the should shot to show her point of view. Panning shots will introduce the atmosphere in the house and the people in the party.

Ending of the music video
For the ending of the music video we will show people unveiling their costumes and changing into different costumes to show that they aren't the" made up version" as the people described them to be.
